£290,000 was made available to local groups through the strategic housing body to help support important and sometimes life-saving activities during the Coronavirus shut down.

Ardoyne Association received £1,500 from the fund, which allowed the delivery of Essential Living kits to 110 vulnerable local residents shielding during the pandemic.

Packs provided included household hygiene items, such as bleach, washing up liquid and cleaning materials, while items provided for personal hygiene included toiletries, sanitary products for women, shower gels and toothpaste.

Volunteer expenses were met through this grant, which also helped provide tea, coffee and refreshments for those helping deliver the packs in the local area in the spare time.

Ardoyne Association Manager Elaine Burns explained;

“Our organisation is very active in the area, with a very strong local network and once the lockdown was proposed, we moved quickly to provide support to our residents.

“Thanks to the Housing Executive, we were able to produce the Essential Living kits and distribute them to over one hundred vulnerable tenants.

“This meant they could stay safe in their homes and practice social distancing and shielding and that health and hygiene could be maintained during the lockdown.”
