Long-standing Housing Executive tenants of Greystone in Antrim are packing away electric blankets for good this Winter as they benefit from a £1million retrofit scheme.

Betty and Billy Lane have lived in the Greystone estate for 50 years and are delighted with the major retrofit investment works to their family home.

One of 55 to receive thermal upgrading work by contractors Combined Facilities Management, their current home of 35 year has benefitted from new external wall insulation, double glazed PVC windows and roof upgrades amounting to over £19k per home.

A very grateful Betty said:

“We just love coming home to a nice warm house -  we don’t need the heat on as much now, so we are saving a bit of money too.

“I used to use an electric blanket but it’s packed away and I don’t think I will need it again because the new windows make such a difference to the heat.

“I’ve always loved living in Greystone – we brought our four children up here among great neighbours.

“Looking out at our row of houses looking so well just gives everyone a real lift.

“My daughter was one of the first to get the work done to her house and she is delighted with it too.”

Breige Mullaghan, Housing Executive Area Manager, South Antrim said:

“My team and I are delighted this scheme was completed in our area.

“We worked continuously with our tenants to give information and support throughout the project.

“We look forward to continuing to provide similar scheme services within South Antrim in the future.

“A big thank you to our contractors CFM and also to our tenants for their patience.

“I hope they enjoy the benefits of this upgrade for many years to come.”
