The Housing Executive is recognising the contribution of apprentices to housing during National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from Monday, 5th February to Friday 9th February.

“Apprentices play a vital role in our workforce. They bring enthusiasm, innovation and diverse experiences,” explained Sophie Irwin, Head of Learning and Organisational Development.

“They help us to build a committed and dedicated team from the ground up and bring their own unique life experiences to enhance our diverse and inclusive teams,” she continued.

“Our apprentices are key to service delivery, working alongside mentors and experienced staff to ensure timely and first-class customer service.

“Over the last ten years, 300 apprentices and graduates have been recruited across a number of roles including housing services, plumbing, joinery, electrics, IT, project management and quantity surveying.

“In 2023 59 entry-level roles joined us with a further 62 apprentices employed by contractors working on Housing Executive projects.

"As a result, we recently exceeded our three year target of 120 apprentices earlier than expected”.

“There has never been a better time to consider an apprenticeship with us. We plan to offer a wide range of apprenticeships during 2024.

"Anyone who joins our apprenticeship programmes will have the opportunity to attain recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary, and have the opportunity to access a wide range of career development options.

“In the coming months, we will announce details of our latest opportunities. We will also be highlighting the work of some of our apprentices, who come from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and educational achievement.

"We hope that by doing so, we will encourage people who previously may not have considered starting a career with the Housing Executive to apply.”
