It was a night of celebrations at the Housing Executive’s 10th annual Rural Community Awards ceremony held in The Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy, Co Derry/Londonderry.

Improving community spirit within rural neighbourhoods is the aim of these awards.

Elma Newberry, Housing Executive’s Director of Strategic Housing Authority said,

“Congratulations to everyone who attended the awards.

“My heartfelt thanks to all the groups for their ongoing work in the communities that they represent.

“It was heart-warming to hear inspirational stories of leadership, commitment and ambition to improve rural areas.

“We currently manage 14,425 homes in rural locations with about 35,000 people living in our housing in these areas.

“I hope that the awards help provide the recognition that is thoroughly deserved.

“As we work on developing a new Rural Strategy in the coming year we will continue to promote the growth of inclusive and sustainable rural communities.”
