Children in Armagh get active for Autumn
Young people in Armagh are getting active this Autumn with a free programme of sports coaching which is bringing children from all communities together.
Harps Gaelic Football Club are running the 26-week programme after receiving over £3,000 from the Housing Executive.
Declan Toal, Vice Chairman of Harps Gaelic Football Club, said:
“We are offering 144 hours of coaching for young people in a range of different sports, including basketball, football and netball.
“Our programme was created following feedback from the whole community, including representatives from ethnic minority backgrounds who expressed an interest in using our facilities for sports.
“We’ve worked with them to offer a diverse range of activities that we hope will encourage all young people in our community to come together through sport.
“Thanks to a Community Cohesion grant from the Housing Executive we are able to facilitate this project.”
Michelle Hazlett, Good Relations Officer at the Housing Executive, said:
“Harps GFC’s sports programme is doing a great job at promoting better community cohesion amongst young people in the area.
“Our support will help children make friends and encourage good community relations.”
