Last week the Housing Executive held their annual community conference in Belfast’s Girdwood Community Hub. This was the first time in three years that the conference was able to take place in person.

Welcoming people from neighbourhoods across Northern Ireland, local community groups had the opportunity to connect with people face to face.

The conference provided a forum for community workers to share knowledge, ideas and community successes, as well as space for people to reconnect and make new contacts.

Information stalls showcased the many products and services available from community groups and social enterprises, while two young singers from the Newtownabbey Arts and Cultural Network (NACN) entertained attendees.

The conference was opened by Chief Executive of the Housing Executive, Grainia Long who extended a warm welcome to all of those present.

The theme of the day was HELPP- Heat, Eat, Light, People and Power. Speakers at the conference included; Joseph Elliot from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Pat Austin, the Director of National Energy Action Northern Ireland. Key topics were covered including research into poverty in Northern Ireland and the cost of living crisis.

Attendees were able to watch several videos which showcased the incredible funded projects which are making a real difference in communities in Belfast, North Region and South Region.

The conference was closed by Chair of the Housing Executive, Nicole Lappin who commended the community groups for their ongoing hard work.
