A fantastic evening of Halloween events took place on Friday (October 31) in Downpatrick Town Centre, hosted by the Housing Executive in collaboration with Downpatrick Community Collective and Newry, Mourne and Down District council.

A much-loved community celebration, the festivities were originally established as a positive alternative to unmanaged bonfires and anti-social behaviour traditionally associated with Halloween.

Housing Executive, Area Manager Claire Crainey said:

“We are delighted to continue our support for Downpatrick Community Collective’s annual Halloween event.

“In the past the organization of local bonfires encouraged the use of illegal fireworks and an increase in anti-social behaviour.

“We have seen a significant reduction in these incidents since Downpatrick Community Collective started working with us, council staff, and the PSNI to create a free Halloween event for all!”

Dan McEvoy, from Downpatrick Community Collective, added:

“Our annual Halloween event was once again a great success and enjoyed by residents of all ages.

“Families were entertained with the likes of storytelling and dance displays and the costumes all looked brilliant!”
