Families in the New Lodge area of Belfast came together for an afternoon of free activities and food at a recent community fun day.
Volunteers from the New Lodge Housing Forum organised the annual event after receiving £2,791 in Community Cohesion funding from the Housing Executive.
Kate Clarke, from New Lodge Housing Forum, said: “Residents of the New Lodge, young and old, were once again warmly welcomed to our annual fun day.
“Thanks to the funding from the Housing Executive, we were able to provide activities for all ages attending including inflatables and music.
“Our fun day serves as a positive replacement for bonfires once seen in the area at this time of year.
“Now in its third year, the event has become a real highlight of the summer and serves to strengthen community relations in the area.
“Holding events like these also gives our young people something to do and helps further reduce any anti-social behaviour associated with the summer period.”
Dr Seán Brennan, Good Relations Officer at the Housing Executive, added: “Congratulations to the New Lodge Housing Forum for organising another hugely successful day for residents.
“Over the years, the fun day has proved to be a great alternative to bonfires and it promotes pride in the area.
“We’re proud to support the many volunteers who continue to bring residents together and improve community relations.”
