A community cohesion fund of £2700 helped to boost the event, which brought people together to make friends, celebrate community spirit and welcome new faces to the area.
Kathy Wolff, Project Worker, Community Relations Forum said, “This year the Great Glengormley Get Together was funded by the Housing Executive for the first time and what a difference it made.
“We were able to offer activities for all ages and abilities including, country music, line dancing, craft displays from across the world, face painting, a jigsaw farm, a play bus and a sensory bus.
‘Our Pot A Plant for Peace initiative was a highlight for many.
“All ages made their own decorated bags, planted bulbs in them and then had the joy of giving them to others.
“This event was the perfect outing for families dealing with the cost-of-living crisis as it gave children the chance to have fun while the adults were able to get support and advice from other community organisations.
“Our successful get together is proof that alone we can do so little but together we can do so much.”
Stephen Gamble, Good Relations Officer, South Antrim said, “The Great Glengormley Get Together is a fantastic event.
“Thousands attended this event and for everyone engaged, including Housing Executive tenants from across South Antrim.
“It was a great way of improving the community cohesion in Newtownabbey.”
