A vital connection service enabling disengaged tenants in Millburn in Coleraine to fully engage in community activities is going from strength to strength, thanks to Housing Executive funding.
The Active Communities Together project in Millburn Coleraine received £50,000 from the Sustaining Tenancies fund to continue to support tenants living in Millburn, and the surrounding area, to think better, feel better & do better through improved social connectedness.
Applications to the Sustaining Tenancies fund are still open and groups can apply for grants of up to £100,000 until October 20, 2023 at www.nihe.gov.uk
Jennifer Robinson, Active Communities Together project Coordinator said:
“With this fantastic funding support from the Housing Executive, we are offering eight weeks of winter wellbeing workshops including an 'Art Attack' hand-painting workshop, laughter yoga and aromatherapy.
“We have wonderful activities planned well into the New Year which gives our participants an opportunity to socialise during the long winter nights, have fun and look after their mental health.
“All our activities are designed to be fun and easily accessible, with no need for specialist skills or equipment.
“They have already proven to increase confidence, improve memory, promote relaxation and enhance social skills.
“On behalf of everyone at Active Communities Together thank you to the Housing Executive’s Sustaining Tenancies Programme because without their support none of this would be possible.”
Mark Alexander, Housing Executive Causeway Area Manager said:
“Huge congratulations to everyone involved in such a worthwhile project.
“Anything that gets people at risk of feeling isolated out and about, discovering new hobbies, skills and friends this winter is to be commended.”
Creating sustainable tenancies is the overall aim of the Sustaining Tenancies fund with a specific focus on helping vulnerable customers at greater risk of tenancy breakdown.
Emma Geddis, Housing Executive’s Sustaining Tenancies Grant Funding Programme Manager said:
“Our priority funding areas include projects for tenants to alleviate the impacts of the cost of living crisis, support mental health and wellbeing and practical support / resources for managing and maintaining tenancies.
“We also support projects that help our tenants manage their tenancies, engage with the community and reduce their carbon footprint.
“To date, we have invested approximately £1.5 million to support 36 projects across Northern Ireland providing valuable support to our tenants.”
