Housing Executive Supports ‘Growing Together’ Project at Open Doors Complex
Housing Executive is delighted to support the ‘Growing Together’ project at the Open Doors Complex in Bellaghy, an inspiring cross-community initiative aimed at bringing people together, building new skills, and strengthening community ties.
Run by a dedicated team of local volunteers, The Open Doors Complex has been operating in Bellaghy for the past two and a half years, offering a warm welcome to everyone in the area and providing a wide range of amenities including a large sports hall, rooms for hire, an allotment, bee hives, and a small café for refreshments.
As part of the ‘Growing Together’ project, the group will host a series of classes and workshops in gardening, painting, baking, crafts, cookery, and upholstery. Each of these activities are designed to encourage participation, reduce social isolation, and promote community wellbeing by offering a welcoming and safe space for all.
Sharon Crooks, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager, said: “We are proud to support the Open Doors Complex and their ‘Growing Together’ project. This initiative reflects exactly what community spirit is all about – people coming together, learning from one another, and building lasting connections.
“It’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm and creativity driving positive change in Bellaghy.”
The Open Doors Complex plays a vital role in bridging divides and encouraging cross-community relationships. With support from the Housing Executive’s Community Cohesion funding, the project aims to further strengthen volunteering and skills development.
By creating practical opportunities for residents to learn and work together, the ‘Growing Together’ project will help to build long-term community capacity, foster self-reliance, and ensure that Bellaghy continues to thrive as a welcoming and inclusive place for all.
