Homelessness Awareness Week – see the person
Homelessness Awareness Week 2025 takes place between Monday, 1st December and Sunday, 7th December, this year.
Organised by Homeless Connect, the annual week incorporates a week of social, educational and awareness events aimed at raising awareness of the reality of homelessness In Northern Ireland.
This year’s theme is ‘See The Person’ which reflects the importance of recognising the individuality, dignity and humanity of people experiencing homelessness.
Catherine Carey, Housing Executive Homelessness Strategy Manager, said:
“Every year Homelessness Awareness Week gives us the opportunity to highlight the work that goes on daily to prevent homelessness and support anyone affected by it.
“This year we have a full programme of events and have been working with our partners in the Homelessness Local Area Groups to coordinate networking sessions, donation drives and awareness events.
“Staff in our offices have once again fully embraced the week with coffee mornings, carol services and donation drives taking place in offices in Belfast, Ballymena, Cookstown and Enniskillen.”
Staff in the Housing Executive have also found other unique ways to raise awareness and support with members of the Housing Services Central Unit taking part in Hyrox Dublin and local office staff participating in Street Soccer NI’s Causeway Cup.
Catherine continued:
“It is amazing every year how our colleagues throughout the Housing Executive really go that extra mile to support Homelessness Awareness Week.
"This year some of the charities that will benefit are: MACS Young Persons’ Services, High Kirk Church, Depaul Castlehill, Hope Café, Magherafelt and the Welcome Organisation.
“And of course we are here all year through to help and support anyone affected by homelessness and to work with our partners on ending homelessness together.
