Housing Executive hosts event at Erne Integrated college promoting Homelessness Awareness.

Year 11 and 12 students at Enniskillen’s Erne Integrated College have participated in an interactive workshop organised by the Housing Executive to raise awareness among young people of homelessness and the support that is available in the Fermanagh and Omagh area.

The session aimed to challenge the stigma associated with homelessness and featured a variety of activities and opportunities for students to engage in discussions on housing and support services.

Held on Thursday 6 February, the interactive tool Menti was deployed to allow students to participate in live polls, quizzes and provide real-time feedback, bringing the topic of homelessness to life and engaging students in a fun and dynamic way.

Housing Executive Area Manager, Helen Hicks, said: “We were delighted to get the opportunity to connect with students at Erne Integrated College and engage with them on the very important topic of homelessness.

“Events such as this foster a deeper understanding of important social issues among young people in the Enniskillen area and we’re committed to continuing this valuable work in schools across the Fermanagh and Omagh area”

Catherine Carey, Homelessness Strategy Manager; said; “We look forward to hosting events like this in the future to ensure that young people have a better understanding of homelessness and the range of support services in their local area.

“With the positive response from Erne Integrated College, we’re keen to deliver similar events in the future as the awareness these sessions create is a key tool in meeting our objective of prioritising homelessness prevention.”
