Housing Executive volunteers take on Age NI Shop Challenge

Housing Executive staff from across Northern Ireland recently took part in a Shops Challenge event to raise money for their charity partner AGE NI.
On one of the wettest June days so far this year, Housing Executive volunteers took over four Age NI shops in Ballymena, Bangor, Coleraine, and Newtownards.
The rain did not dampen spirits as the four teams welcomed customers and encouraged them to make the most of the bargains on offer.
A massive £4,200 was raised through store sales and a number of fundraising events that took place in the run up to the event.
Housing Executive Chair, Nicole Lappin said:
“It was a fantastic group effort, with colleagues raiding their wardrobes, collecting, and donating 110 bags of clothes, toys and other items from our offices across Northern Ireland.
In addition to those staff who donated and took time to work in the shops, I want to thank the hard work of the fundraising committee for collecting, sorting, and delivering donations.
“In the stores I visited, I was delighted to see everyone participating, dressing up, having fun with the Age NI staff and customers while raising money for this very deserving cause.
“We nominated our new charity partner, Age NI in April 2023. Since then, our Fundraising Committee has been working hard to build our new relationship and to set out a calendar of events for our two-year partnership.
"This has been a great success so far and I’m looking forward to seeing what the team comes up with next!”
Rosalind Cole, Fundraising Manager at Age NI said:
“We were delighted to have the opportunity to run our first ever shops’ challenge supported by our corporate partner the Housing Executive.
"A massive thank you and well done to all the staff who organised various fundraising events and stock collections in the lead-up to the event, and to those who volunteered in our charity shops on 13 June.
"It was a very successful and enjoyable day, and a great opportunity to raise much needed funds and raise awareness of the valuable work we do locally for older people.”
