BSCR’s All in One Day event hosted the pupils from six primary schools after receiving a Community Cohesion Grant worth £3,355.99 from the Housing Executive.
Aimee Miller, BSCR’s Transitions Coordinator, said: “Funding from the Housing Executive helped make this day possible and the support we’ve had from them is invaluable.
“We welcomed P7 pupils from six schools to Queen’s PEC for a day of different sports and wellbeing activities to encourage them to meet new people.
“Our day helped bring pupils from diverse backgrounds together and promote positive social interaction.
“As they’ll soon be making the transition to secondary school, we encouraged the children to feel comfortable meeting new people and making new friends.
“We wanted to create a fun and informal opportunity for the children to meet others who may be going to the same secondary school in September.
“Having formed friendships before they’ve even started really helps smooth what can be a difficult transition for children.”
Paul McCombe, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager for South and East Belfast, added: “We’re delighted to provide funding and support to facilitate projects like these, which help strengthen community cohesion in the area.
“BSCR’s event was a huge success and we’re really thankful for the hard work and dedication of all involved.”
Schools taking part in the project included Blythfield Primary School, Donegall Primary School, St Malachy’s Primary School, Fane Street Primary School, Scoil an Droichid and Taughmonagh Primary School.
