Hundreds of families in Ballyduff in Newtownabbey are to benefit from a new sensory space funded by the Housing Executive and Big Lottery.

The multi-sensory room within the community centre was part funded through a community involvement grant of £4362.00 and an Award for All grant sourced by Wendy Kerr in Impact Network NI.

Poppy Buchanan Douglas, Housing Executive Assistant Area Manager South Antrim said,

“It is great to see this much anticipated multi-sensory room completed and being enjoyed.

“There are 900 homes in Ballyduff and this resource will be of enormous benefit to Housing Executive tenants and families in this part of Newtownabbey”.

Ashley Bell, Ballyduff Community Redevelopment Group said,

“Seeing a much-needed room be transformed into a multi-sensory space within the community centre is amazing.

“We hope this space will not only provide a safe fun space for all ages with additional needs but will also be used to give support and advice to parents and carers along the way.

“Thank you to Stephen Gamble, Housing Executive Good Relations Officer and Wendy Kerr from Impact NI for all their continued help and support.”

Craig McMahon, Ballyduff Community Redevelopment Group said,

“We are very proud to be the first, but hopefully not the last, Community Centre in the area to have a much needed resource such as this.

Thanks also go to all the volunteers who made it happen.”

Wendy Kerr, Impact Network NI said,

“We have been delighted to support Ballyduff Community Redevelopment Group with another capacity building and health and wellbeing initiative.

“The development of the sensory suite provides a unique asset to the local community and centre participants.”
