Soul Resort Youth Group members participate in abseil

Dungannon based Youth Group, Soul Resort with funding provided by the Housing Executive, challenged local young people to abseil down the local Presbyterian Hall.
With over 60 people taking part in the abseil, the event started with brave young members of the group followed by group leaders and even a few grandparents!
Activities such as abseiling are known to have an increased benefit to both mental and physical health – especially in terms of increased confidence and self-belief. For the young people involved with this group, it is additionally expected to help with increased social inclusion and networking opportunities.
Health and Safety was facilitated by the Church Hall, who ensured all the appropriate arrangements were in place - giving both the opportunity to promote this youth initiative and involve more of the local community.
Housing Executive Area Manager, Sharon Crooks said “Our Summer abseiling event with Soul Resort Youth Group was a great success!
“It was a great day out for all involved – events such as these are amazing for community morale. With a wide range of age groups taking part, the youngest member was 14 and the oldest was a senior leader at 82-year-old it really brings the community together.”
Andrew Trotter, from Soul Resort added, “With each participant bringing along their own family of spectators, we had over 100 watching and many more viewings from the street.
“Even the weather played its part with unbroken sunshine, and the abseiling was run very safely and efficiently by Belfast Activity Centre.
“This was undoubtedly one of the best events we've ever run getting involvement from our youngest to our oldest family members and great involvement of all towns people passing by.”
