(L-R) Clady summer scheme attendees with the Housing Executive’s Audrey Mullan, Anne Marie Convery and Shea McPeake from Bann Valley Youth Scheme
Young people from Clady, Portglenone and surrounding areas have been warmly welcomed during a three-week summer scheme.
Bann Valley Youth Scheme’s programme of activities, which included exploring different cultures, benefitted from a Community Cohesion Grant from the Housing Executive.
Shea McPeake, from Bann Valley Youth Scheme, said: “Our range of activities funded by the Housing Executive will have a really positive impact on young people in the area.
“In addition to providing various sporting, fun and educational activities, we wanted to create a welcoming environment for children of all backgrounds and encourage better community cohesion and break down barriers.
“Children from Afghan and Syrian communities who attended the scheme have had the opportunity to share their culture with arts and music activities facilitated by the Beyond Skin organisation.
“We are already seeing the long-lasting impact of this scheme, creating a sense of belonging and allowing our young people to foster a better appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures.”
Anne Marie Convery, the Housing Executive’s Good Relations Officer for Mid Ulster, added: “We are thrilled to see Bann Valley Youth Scheme continue to bring young people in the community together.
“Our funding helps the group facilitate a wonderful programme of sporting and educational activities, which aim to promote integration and good community relations as well as providing a positive contribution to the wellbeing of the children.
“All children attending this summer scheme have had the chance to form strong and positive friendships.”
