Coleraine 50+ Forum held a successful information event last week, with many other community groups coming together to build relationships and see what there is on offer for people over 50. 

Held in the Garvagh Development Building, the Housing Executive provided Community Grant funding to hold the event, which saw up to 100 people come along.  Those who came along also enjoyed lunch and an afternoon of dancing, with music by Francis Faulkner.

Active community representative Rosemary McCaw was the driving force behind this event.  She said:

“We want to enable older people in our communities by showing them the range of activities available that they can enjoy and be a part of.

“Our thanks must go to the Housing Executive for helping us to make this event a reality.  It’s important to remember the value of older people, and give them the confidence to play an active role in our community.”

The Housing Executive’s local Neighbourhood Officer, Nuala McGoldrick, was also at the event, which saw around 20 different information stalls on display, such as Crime Prevention, Listen, Share, Change, Action on Hearing Loss, Make the Call (NI Direct), Bluebird Care, and Age Concern.  She explains why the Housing Executive funded this event:

“We support a range of activities that promote health and wellbeing, bring people together and improve shared spaces in estates across the Coleraine area.

“The information day was a great opportunity for residents to socialise, learn and have a bit of fun.  Well done to Rosemary and everyone involved with the Coleraine 50+ Forum for running such a fantastic event.”
