Housing Executive tenants in towns across Fermanagh have had their homes modernised as part of a major investment programme totalling almost half a million pounds.

Brand new kitchens and bathrooms have been fitted in 65 homes in Enniskillen, Newtownbutler, Brookeborough and Irvinestown thanks to a financial injection of £438,971.

Two further kitchen and bathroom replacement schemes are also due to start soon.

Seventy five properties in Tamlaght, Ballinamallard, Irvinestown, Enniskillen, Maguiresbridge, Newtownbutler, Ederney and Omagh will get an upgrade.

In addition, 26 homes in Enniskillen, Ederney, Belcoo, Enniskillen and Derrylin will be included in a later scheme.

Newtownbutler tenant Helen Kelly is thrilled with the new kitchen at her Galloon Gardens home.

She said: “As part of this very welcome scheme, I had my kitchen, bathroom and downstairs washroom refitted. I’m especially pleased with the kitchen as it’s a room you spend so much time in.

“I was able to choose my own cream units and grey work surfaces and tiles.

“The whole space has been transformed and it is so much brighter, easier to keep clean and more pleasant to work in. I also have more storage.

“The work has really modernised my home and it’s a much more cheerful place to be.

“The workmen were fantastic, more than helpful and pleasant.

“I’d really like to thank the Housing Executive and the contractor – this has made a huge difference to my life.”

Housing Executive patch manager for the area Martina McMahon said: “Kitchen remodeling can be a daunting but exciting event for our tenants.

“Committed and professional workers have transformed these Housing Executive homes and delivered beautiful, functional and modern kitchens.

“In particular, new wiring gives real peace of mind to our tenants that their homes will be fit for purpose for a very long time,” she added.

“We kept our tenants involved as part of the process. They’ve had a one to one consultation with our staff to plan the layout of their new kitchen as well as choosing their units and tiles.

“Well done to all involved and a big thank you to our tenants for their patience and perseverance and to contractor PK Murphy for their hard work.”
