Housing Executive retrofits 1,000th home

We’ve recently completed retrofitting 1,000 of our homes in Northern Ireland, making them warmer and more energy efficient for tenants.
A house in Redmanville Estate in Portadown is the 1,000th property to benefit from the extensive revamp.
Taking a fabric first approach, the work includes external wall insulation, cladding and roofing work, and fascia and gutter replacement. Roof space insulation is also being upgraded where needed.
Ongoing retrofitting is being carried out in homes across Northern Ireland as we continue to help tenants tackle the cost of living crisis and reduce carbon emissions from its stock.
David Palmer, the Housing Executive’s Regional Project Delivery Manager, said: “Our main focus is to improve people’s lives and make the planet a better place, which is in line with our vision of making a difference in local communities.
“This European funded scheme is expected to complete this year with the Housing Executive continuing the works in developing our housing estates in the years to follow.”
He added: “As part of this project, we recently carried out an extensive programme of work in Portadown.
“Our progress so far, completing 1,000 homes, is clear evidence of our journey to deliver better homes for our communities.”
Housing Executive Senior Project Manager Joe Haughian said: “This has been a challenging but very rewarding project for the south regional programme delivery team to be involved with.
“Improving energy efficiency in our building stock will not only contribute to decarbonising energy but also stimulates the local construction industry and tackles fuel poverty by putting more money back in our tenants’ pockets.
“The feedback we are getting from our tenants once the work is completed has been very positive. We are delighted to be able to hand over greatly improved and more comfortable homes to our tenants.”
Tony Collum, from IRS Scotland, which carried out the work in Portadown, said: “We have extensive experience in retrofitting houses and we are delighted to be able to use our expertise to ensure families in Northern Ireland can enjoy better, warmer homes.”
The Department for Communities, on behalf of the Housing Executive, was successful in securing funding for the Energy Efficiency in Social Housing project from the European Regional Development Fund through the Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme for Northern Ireland, managed by the Department for the Economy with additional investment by the Housing Executive.
