Laurencetown allotment project is sheds ahead
Plans to transform a piece of land in Laurencetown into a thriving community garden and allotment are one step closer with the introduction of a new shed and gardening tools.
A Community Grant worth £2,600 provided to Laurencetown Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association paid for the shed, which will allow the project to continue to grow.
Claire Patience, Community Development Manager at Laurencetown, Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association, said:
“We’re well on our way to creating a beautiful community garden and allotment thanks to funding from the Housing Executive.
“Our new shed holds a variety of tools and equipment for our volunteers to use as part of the project, which will encourage people to grow their own food for personal and community use.
“Raised beds will also be incorporated to ensure people with a disability or limited mobility are able to join in and feel included.
“This is just the beginning of a long-term community space which will bring people of all ages in the area together.”
Fiona McNally, the Housing Executive’s Team Leader for the Banbridge area, said:
“We’re proud to help kickstart this wonderful project, which will welcome participation from the whole community.
“A community garden serves as a focal point for people living in the area and will become an attractive place to come together, learn new skills and socialise.
“Laurencetown, Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association are providing a space which will serve the community in a positive way for years to come.”
