United in friendship in Strabane

A highly anticipated community project is forging new friendships in Strabane.
Neighbours United received a community involvement grant of £2,153 towards their popular annual summer event.
Majella Reid, Neighbours United Treasurer said, “We are delighted to receive help from the Housing Executive because without this support many families wouldn’t have the opportunity to have even one family day away this summer.
“With this funding we offer offsite visits and also a range of creative, wellbeing and recreational activities.
“Our hope, through this project, is to make our community a better place for our children to grow up in by promoting understanding and acceptance of all cultures.
“It is so rewarding to bring people together from different cultures in an informal setting and hear them interact on a first name basis.
“By building relationships naturally like this community members then feel more comfortable in approaching their neighbours with any concerns without fear of reprisal.
“And this, in turn could lead to reduced incidents of antisocial behaviour.”
Andrew Mullan, Good Relations Officer, West Area said, “We are very happy to support Neighbours United as they encourage people to mix and integrate through a range of activities this summer.
“We fully support them in their efforts to build understanding and acceptance of different cultures.”
“Well done to everyone who worked so hard to make it a success.”
