Energy Efficiency in Social Housing

The Energy Efficiency in Social Housing project is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme for Northern Ireland 2014-2020.

The approved eligible programme cost is over €50 million, of which €23 million will be provided by the ERDF with the remaining being invested by the Housing Executive.

The programme covers a six year period until 2022/23 and will improve the energy performance of nearly 1900 homes managed by the Housing Executive.

Programme Update 

Aluminium Bungalows

To date, External Wall Insulation works schemes have been completed to aluminium bungalows in the following areas:

  • South Antrim (Randalstown, Crumlin, Ballyclare & Newtownabbey)

  • Mallon Villas, Magherafelt

  • Camowen Cottages & Watson Park, Omagh

  • Bloomfield Place, Bangor

  • Carrick Drive, Lurgan

A further scheme in the Derry/ Londonderry area is currently in the procurement stage with another scheme in the Causeway area being on site.

No Fines Works, Tranche 1

Out of the 12 schemes in Tranche 1 to date, 4 schemes have been completed with the rest currently onsite.

The completed improvement schemes include:

  • Meadowbrook (Pilot), Craigavon

  • Cliftondene, Belfast

  • Ballysillan (Phase 2), Belfast

  • Newpark, Antrim

  • Fern Park, Derry

The schemes currently on site cover improvements in the following areas:

  • Ballysillan (Phase 1), Belfast

  • Carlisle, Belfast

  • Coleraine area

  • Bloomfield, Derry

  • Meadowbrook, Craigavon

  • Brownstown and Redmanville areas, Portadown

The successful Contractors for Tranche 1 were;

  • Lot 1: Active Maintenance Solutions Ltd 

  • Lot 2: PK Murphy Construction Ltd 

  • Lot 3: Insulated Render Systems Ltd 

  • Lot 4: M&M Contractors Ltd

No Fines works, Tranche 2

To date 1 scheme has been completed with 9 schemes currently on site. 

The completed improvement schemes include:

  • Drumcoo, Dungannon

The schemes currently on site are in the following areas:

  • Forthriver (Phases 1, 2 and 3), Belfast

  • Ballymurphy (Phases 1 and 2), Belfast

  • Conduff and Finaghy, Belfast

  • Ennis Tarry, Lurgan 

  • Brookmount/ Derry Road, Omagh

The successful Contractors for Tranche 2 were;

  • Lot 1: Piperhill Construction Ltd (Clonduff and Finaghy, Belfast)

  • Lot 2: Piperhill Construction Ltd (Carrickfergus, Waterloo Place, Rathfern and Ballymena)

  • Lot 3: PK Murphy Construction Ltd  (Forthriver, Belfast)

  • Lot 4: PK Murphy Construction Ltd  (Ballymurphy, Belfast)

  • Lot 5: Active Maintenance Solutions Ltd  (Omagh, Drumcoo, Ennis Tarry and Ardowen)

  • Lot 6: Active Maintenance Solutions Ltd  (Forthriver, Belfast)

No Fines works, Tranche 3

Three contracts have been awarded in August 2022 to complete works to nearly 450 properties with an approximated value of over £14million. This tranche is currently funded by 100% investment from the Housing Executive.

The successful Contractors for Tranche 3 were;

  • Lot 1: Active Maintenance Solutions Ltd (Holywood and Bangor)
  • Lot 2: Combined Facilities Management Ltd (Greystone, Antrim)
  • Lot 3: Piperhill Construction Ltd (Lurgan)
